The University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR invites applications for a senior faculty position as a tenured associate or full professor, with a start date of August 2018. We are interested in applicants with expertise in data science which may include the broad areas of big data, data analytics, data mining, visual analytics, and computational science.
The position supports a campus-wide initiative to grow capabilities in the area of data sciences. The position was also created to support Governor Hutchinson’s Action Plan for Economic Competitiveness in Data Analytics and Computing in Arkansas. The successful candidate is expected to conduct collaborative research in one of the data science areas mentioned above, as well as engaging industry and economic development.
Applicants must have a Ph.D., or equivalent, in an area related to data science. The successful candidate’s tenure home will be in the college and department which best fits the candidate’s expertise and background. The candidate must present an excellent track record in scholarship and funding, and be able to provide evidence of high scholarly productivity through publication and service, as well as having a strong interest in teaching, mentoring students, and supporting research and curricular development in the areas of data science.
Preferred qualifications include experience teaching at an accredited, higher education environment, national and international recognition in data science, and have achieved the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure, or equivalent professional status in industry or government.
A successful candidate whose credentials warrant will be nominated as an Arkansas Research Alliance (ARA) Scholar. Recognition as an ARA Scholar will provide the successful candidate with significant resources to continue and further the scholar’s contributions to research.
