Karl Denninger

Former CEO of MCSNet, currently doing independent network and systems research

Mr. Denninger is the former CEO of MCSNet, a regional Chicago area networking and Internet company that operated from 1987 to 1998.  Mr. Denninger’s other accomplishments include embedded control software and systems in multiple industry segments, the design and construction of regional and national IP-based networks, computer and network security, electronic conferencing software dating to the 1980s and research and development on both small and large-scale computer software and systems which he continues to pursue on an independent and contracted basis.

He is the author of The Market Ticker (http://market-ticker.org), a daily market and political commentary publishing since 2007.

Mr. Denninger received the 2008 Reed Irvine Accuracy In Media Award for Grassroots Journalism for his coverage of the 2008 market meltdown.

In 2011 Wiley published his book “Leverage”, detailing the causes of the 2008 financial collapse along with analysis and policy prescriptions for the future.

KC Santosh

Chair of the Department of Computer Science at the University of South Dakota

KC Santosh is the Chair of the Department of Computer Science at the University of South Dakota. Prior to that, he worked as a research fellow at the National Institutes of Health. He also served as a research scientist at the INRIA Nancy Grand Est Research Centre (France), where he received his PhD in Computer Science – Artificial Intelligence.

With $3m+ funding (including $1m grant from DEPSCOR – 2023: AI/ML capacity building at USD) and more than 240 peer-reviewed research articles plus 9 authored books (e.g., AI, Ethical Issues and Explainability), Prof. Santosh has demonstrated his expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, data mining, and big data.

He serves as an editor of multiple prestigious journals such IEEE Transactions on AI and Int. J of Machine Learning & Cybernetics). He is the founder of AI programs at USD – a pioneer home to AI programs in the state of SD.

Dennis Crouch

Law Professor at University of Missouri

Dennis Crouch is a law professor specializing in legal-tech issues. His academic background is in engineering, and he conducted AI research for his undergraduate thesis in the 1990s before transitioning into the legal field and academia. 

 

Edward Mirielli

Associate Teaching Professor Director of Graduate Studies Online DSA M.S., Data Science & Analytics at MU Institute for Data Science and Informatics

Edward Mirielli is a teaching professor of Data Science & Analytics (DSA) in the MU Institute for Data Science and Informatics.   He teaches  Data & Information Ethics and Database Analytics courses.  He also coordinates all student DSA MS capstone projects. 

His areas of interest related to AI ethics are: comprehending AI Risk frameworks used in guiding AI & Machine Learning applications, how human and computation biases influences the design of these application, and the way we rationalize the consequence of outcomes of AI use. 

Rajesh Kavasseri

Associate Dean for Research for the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering at South Dakota State University

Rajesh Kavasseri oversees and spearheads the Lohr College’s research enterprise.  He is an AI-enthusiast viewing the discipline as an agent for scientific and societal advancement.

His focus is ethical issues stemming from generative AI, particularly, its potential to: create (a) information and misinformation, (b) tools both benign and malicious, and (c) augment and inhibit creativity.
