Over 200 faculty members from the State of Oklahoma's Higher Education met on Tuesday, October 23rd, for the "Oklahoma Education Internet2 and Digital Resource Conference". The morning session focused on Internet2 and the afternoon is on Digital Resources. Bill Mitchell from MOREnet discussed the Internet2 K20 initiative (Oklahoma was one of the first 11 states to participate) and also described the Lewis and Clark Bi-Centennial Virtual Expedition. Even though the Lewis and Clark didn't come through Oklahoma, participants were able to relate it to Oklahoma projects such as the Trail of Tears. We also heard from Bill Plummer of the University of Missouri - Columbia about the "Virtual Harlem" project. Virtual Harlem is a virtual reality environment developed to supplement African American literature courses. Learn about Virtual Harlem ... Oklahoma is also very active in the Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT) project and so we were honored to have Lou Zweier from the California State University Distance Learning Center present. MERLOT is a FREE and OPEN resource designed primarily for faculty and students in higher education. Check out MERLOT ... Flora McMartin from SMETE
discussed the benefits of their Digital Library which has a collection of
science, math, engineering and technology education content and
services. For more
information on SMETE ... The conference concluded with a presentation from Jerry Adams of INFOMINE. INFOMINE is a scholarly internet resource collection and we have found it to be very useful tool. Check out INFOMINE ... If you have any questions regarding the meeting or are interested in having one in your state, feel free to contact Kristen Klaver at kklaver@greatplains.net or (405) 325-5774. | ||
