GPN Optical Networking Initiative Meeting
The Great Plains Network and the University of Missouri at Kansas
City will hold a GPN Optical Networking Initiative Meeting on July
25-26, 2002 in Kansas City, MO at the University of Missouri at
Kansas City. The purpose of the meeting is two-fold:
- Juniper and Qwest will discuss JunOS, Juniper routers, the use
of Juniper in the Qwest network, and the use of Juniper in the
next generation of the Abilene network.
- Optical networking initiatives in the Great Plains region, especially
in the Kansas City and outlying areas, including Kansas, Missouri,
and Nebraska.

Particular information regarding the following can be obtained as
follows:
The meeting will attempt to organize and gather information for a
GPN Optical Networking Initiative for the states in the region.
All institutions in the seven state member region of GPN are invited
to attend. The particular goals for this meeting are to
- Examine possibilities for dark fiber in the Kansas City Metro
area.
- Examine possibilities for either dark fiber and/or lambdas for the
next level of outlying states. In particalar, including Kansas,
Missouri, and Nebraska.
- Understand optical networking plans in all the states in the region
with the idea of forming potential collaborations.
