The outline of current projects appears below, along with a list of both future and past meetings.

Projects

The Great Plains Network considers some activities to be of such importance that they are designated as projects. Currently, there are five such projects:

Each of these is described briefly below, with more detail at the indicated locations.

The Resource Initiative Project

The resource initiative is a way for the Great Plains Network participants to share resources and knowledge. GPN supports session leaders who participate in leading edge technologies in networking, science, and education. The leaders then share their knowledge with others across the region. The current areas of interest, together with their associated session leaders, are as follows:

IPv6 Dale Finkelson, University of Nebraska at Lincoln
QoS Dave Hartzell, EROS Data Center and GPN
E2E/Web100 Mike Rechtenbaugh, EROS Data Center and GPN
H.323 Tom Brenneman, University of Missouri at Kansas City
Access Grid Nodes Marty Hoag, North Dakota State University
Wireless Tim Buller, University of Kansas
Multicast Rick Summerhill, Great Plains Network

The Measurement Project

The Great Plains Network participates in a measurement project as a participant of the Quilt, an organization of regional networks that promote advanced networking for the research and education community.

The goal of the measurement project is to provide an infrastructure with a reasonable interface that allows for problem resolution and end-to-end performance. For further information, consider

The Internet2 Project

The Great Plains Network supports the national Internet2 project. Many members of GPN are also Internet2 members and participate actively on policy and technical committees under the scope of Internet2. For a list of GPN Internet2 participants and a map of their various locations, or to learn more about the national Internet2 project, select one of the following:

The Great Plains Network connections of researchers to some of the Nexrad Radar Sites in the region. This is an ongoing project to bring crucial data to researchers on a timely basis. For a list of the radar sites in the region, along with a map, select the following:

Meetings

The Great Plains Network holds member meetings during the spring of each year. In addition, many project meetings, or new technology meetings, are scheduled as needed.
